April is Poetry Month!

April is Poetry Month! You know how much I love silly poems and poems you can sing, so I thought I would give you the opportunity to publish your own silly poems or song poems here on our blog. :) Just click on comments and share your creative poems. I have a couple of poem starters below that you can use if you need an idea to get you going (feel free to change any words in the starter if you want).

In his book Pizza, Pigs, and Poetry, author Jack Prelutsky suggests thinking about something you have done that made your parents mad and write about that event. Maybe you fed the dog your brussels sprouts or drew a rainbow on the carpet with your crayons (yes, my son did this). He also suggests thinking about crazy rules your mom has and write about those rules, or think of silly quirks about your mom and write about those quirks.

My other hint is to take a common song you like (i.e.  Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Take Me Out to the Ball Game, etc.) and put new words to that tune. I can’t wait to see what you create!

Bubble Homes and Fish Farts – Show off your poetry!

This week in library we read the book Bubble Homes and Fish Farts, and we learned about several animals that use bubbles in very unique ways. We also talked about how April is National Poetry Month, and I challenged you with the task of writing an acrostic poem about one of the animals in the book. This is your chance to publish your poems for the world! Leave a comment where you type your acrostic poem to share with others. I can’t wait to see your creativity!
