Liberty’s Journey – Where should she go?

This week in library I shared a story with you by author Kelly DiPucchio, who will be visiting our school in May! The story was about the Statue of Liberty leaving New York to visit other places in our great country. If Lady Liberty really could go on a journey across the United States, where do you think she should visit? Why should she visit that place? I can’t wait to hear your ideas.

Sneek peek at Rick Riordan’s new book!

For those of you who are fans of the Percy Jackson books by Rick Riordan, have I got a treat for you! Last year when I got to meet Mr. Riordan in person at my library conference, I shared with you that he would be writing a new series based on Egyptian gods. Well, his new book will be released on May 4, 2010! If that wasn’t exciting enough for you, then check this out. He has the first chapter of the new book posted online for you to read! Check out this sneak peek of The Red Pyramid, the first book in the Kane Chronicles.

After you read it, let me know what you think. Enjoy!

Win lunch with Carolyn Crimi!

On May 12, Carolyn Crimi, the author of my favorite pirate book Henry and the Buccaneer Bunnies, is coming to visit our school! Six lucky kids have a chance to win lunch with Mrs. Crimi! To enter the contest, you need to write a good descriptive paragraph to me telling me why you think you deserve to have lunch with the author. Here’s what you need to do to enter the contest:

1. Write your persuasive paragraph. Make sure you include specific reasons why you should get to have lunch with her. Be convincing! Type your paragraph in Word and save it so you don’t lose your work.

2. Copy your paragraph and paste it into a comment on this blog post. Your teacher or I can help you do this if you do not know how. Remember to use our Internet safety rules and only post your first name and your room number.

3. Submit your paragraph before the end of the day on Friday, May 8.

4. Check the blog next week to see if you are one of the winnners.

Good luck and have fun!

Mrs. Matzat
