Our winter poems have stirred up all sorts of winter! I hope you are all enjoying your days, having some fun in the snow, and spending a little time on reading, spelling and math
Tanner and I have had a great time playing in the snow, sledding, and we even pulled out the skis and did a few runs down the backyard!
I wanted to let you know that the class spelling bee will happen the first day we are back at school, and that will give the winners time to study extra hard before the 3rd Grade Bee that is coming up soon. We will also have the spelling test on those pesky homophones on our first day back at school, so be ready! If you have lost your list, you can go to my lesson plans page and get it any time.
I miss seeing you all, and I hope we will be back on Monday!

This week we will talk a lot about Martin Luther King Jr. and what he believed in. When he was your age, something happened to him that changed his life and made him want to make the world a better place. I think it is important to remember things that happen in your life that make you who you are. I can remember that when I was a summer camp counselor, I loved being with kids, and I knew that some day I wanted a job where I could work with kids every day…and I DO! I would like you to think about your life, and think about something you want to remember about this year. Do you have a dream like Martin Luther King? What will you do to make the world a better place? Did someone inspire you think about what you might be when you grow up? When you are 40, you might look back at this blog, and see how your dream came true, just like we are helping Martin Luther King’s dream come true by being kids of character in Cabin LOL!

I remember when I was 7 my family took a trip to California to visit my Uncle Ron and Aunt Marit. They lived in an apartment in Burbank, and they had a TV in their bedroom which I thought was SUPER COOL! He sold cars, and drove a red convertible, which was even COOLER! My brother got the chicken pox while we were there, and we had to leave him behind with my Aunt and Uncle for TWO WEEKS! I was jealous because he got to lie around in the big bed and watch TV while my Aunt made him food. Then, when he felt better they took him to Disneyland and the ocean. Finally, they put him on an airplane and sent him back to us. When we went to the airport to pick him up, I wanted to be mad at him, but I had missed him so much that all I could do was hug him. I will never forget the California Chicken Pox trip.
I would like you to share a favorite childhood memory here. Please be sure to tell me all the details that make it a fun story. Remember it just needs to be a SEED, not a WATERMELON. My story tells only one part of the trip….I could tell you about how we went to the Rose Parade while we were in California…..but that’s another story

Hope you are all enjoying your snow days! Tanner and I have had lots of fun outside, and today we are tackling a massive puzzle! What are you doing? Post a comment here and let me know how you are spending your extra vacation days!
I also wanted to give you some ideas of what you might do in case you are just laying around being bored at home
We have a couple of big projects this month…one is to make a video for our Japanese exchange school. Here is a link for you to research and start thinking about what things they might think are different and fun about our school compared to theirs…start getting some ideas in your head. I also created a cool virtual sticky note wall about commitment. Check it out here and tell me what you think commitment means! Next…since the winter olympics starts in February, we are going to do a fun project where you research an olympian and then track them as they compete. You can start researching here for that project. Some of the athletes have blogs where you can read about what it’s like to train for the olympics! You can also check out the Martin Luther King links on my website since we will be talking about that alot in January. Don’t forget you can always read books on Tumblebooks and write down the titles to test on them when we get back…get a jump on your AR goal! Hope that keeps you busy! OR…you can just go sledding
See you soon I hope!

We are reading about poor Daniel who becomes the size of his 4th toe. I wonder what you would do if you became that small? Tell me these things:
1. How would you feel if you suddenly shrunk like Daniel?
2. Name one cool thing you would do if you were that small.
3. Tell me one thing that might be really scary about being that small.
Be sure to answer all three things before you submit your comment! Be creative
