Almost Easter!

Well, this is the last blog before your upcoming book project.  Hopefully, you are either done with your book or almost done with your book.  Please be thinking about the project and what you are going to wear, what you are going to say, and how you are going to say it.  I will have a schedule on Monday so that you can sign up for the day that you will present.

I want to know what book you are doing for your project.  Please tell me the title and the author’s name.  I would also like to know which character you will be portraying in the book.  Please tell me three of the character’s external charactertistics and three of the character’s internal characteristics.  What will you be wearing for the presentation?  I’m so excited for this project!  Have a great day!

Spring Sports Begin!

Wow!  This weather is awesome.  Everything is starting to bloom and the spring sports are starting.  Don’t you just love this time of year?   I have just started reading a new book in our library called The Lost Songs by Caroline Clooney.  The protagonist is Lutie.  She lives with her two aunts because her mother is a drug addict.  The book begins when she skips school to take a bus to go see her mother in the ghetto.  She finds out an ugly secret about her mother on that trip.

What are you reading this week?  Please tell me the title of the book and the name of the author?  What is the genre of your book?  I would also like to know which character in your book you would like to have as a friend.  Why would you choose that character?  I’m looking forward to reading your responses.  I hope you have a wonderful day!

The First Week of Spring!

I hope you had a wonderful Spring Break. I know I did. I’m excited to be back at school and am focusing on the MAP test coming up. I have been reading the book Frida Night Lights. It is the true story of Lubbock, Texas and the town’s obsession with high school football. This book is what the movie and the television series were based on.

What are you reading this week? Please tell me the title of the book and the name of the author. I would also like to know the name of the protagonist in your book and what conflict he or she is facing. In addition, please tell me about one decision that the protagonist has made that you DISAGREE with and why. I am excited to start reading your blogs again! Have a great day!

Time for Track

I hope lots of you are going out for Track this spring. There is room for many since there is a variety of events! It is exciting to see you looking for just the right book as you think about the next book project “Portray the Protagonist.” It will be fun to see all of our classmates dressed up as different characters!

What book are you reading this week? Please tell me the title of the book and the author. Who is the protagonist in the book? I would also like to know this…if you could “jump” into your book right now, what would you do in the story and why? I’m looking forward to reading your answers! Hope you have a great day!

Valentine’s Day!

Ah…Valentine’s Day is coming. It’s a day we usually think about LOVE! Love is a “theme” that we find in many of the books we read. The book I just finished had a theme of “love can help to overcome bad circumstances.” Among the Hidden had a theme of bravery and courage.

What are you reading this week? I’d like to know the title of the book and the author’s name. Also, tell me what you consider to be the theme of the book. What “big idea” is the author trying to show through the book? Give an example of how that theme is demonstrated. I look forward to reading your post. Happy Valentine’s Day!

February is Here!

Well, it’s February, and still no snow.  I’m thinking we aren’t going to have any snow days this year, so we’ll be out early in May!  This year is going so fast!  I finished my book Three Black Swans.  I think some of you girls might enjoy the book.  It’s a problem novel with a happy ending.  So, if you like that type of thing, you might want to check it out.

What have you been reading this week?  Please tell me the title of the book and the name of the author.  I would also like you tell me about the mood of the book.  Please tell me three words that describe how you feel when you are reading it.  Remember, mood is how the book makes you feel.  (Tone is the author’s attitude toward what is being written.)  Hope you have an awesome day!

Getting Ready for the Superbowl?

If you’re a football fan, you’re probably getting a little bit of Superbowl fever! It should be a great game! I’m still reading Three Black Swans this week. For those of you who have read it, I’m starting to understand why it’s THREE in the title instead of TWO! I have also been thinking about how Missy in this book would feel if she had to live the life of Luke in Among the Hidden. She is is super energetic, outgoing and loves to laugh. Luke, on other hand, is timid, shy and quite serious. Missy would go absolutely crazy in the attic!

What are you reading this week? Please tell me the title of your book and the author’s name. Who is the protagonist in the book? Tell me three ways that the protagonist is similar to or different from Luke. I look forward to reading your posts. I really enjoyed reading your flashbacks! You all did some awesome work! Have a great day!

MLK Day

Welcome back from your three day weekend. Hopefully you took a moment to think about Martin Luther King Jr and what his life meant to our country. I also hope you had a chance to read a little bit over your three day break! I was happy to start a new book. I began reading the book Three Black Swans by Caroline Cooney. I know that some of my students have read this book. I have been thinking about flashbacks and noticed this flashback in my book. “When they were little, maybe seven or eight, Missy and Claire used to dress the same, wear their hair the same and loudly pretend to understand each other’s thoughts and finsh each other’s sentences. ‘We’re twins!’ they woud lie to anybody paying attention.” I would like you to type a quote from the book you are reading that shows a flashback. Please, also tell me the title of the book and the author’s name. I am looking forward to reading all of your flashbacks! Authors love to include them in their books! Have a great day!

Where’s the Snow?

We are well into winter now, and still no snow. I’m not complaining. How about you? I just finished reading The 11th Plague. Mrs. Jones is processing it in the library so that it will soon be available for checkout. I highly recommend it! I have now started the book Seizure by Kathy Reichs. I think she writes the books that the TV show Bones is based on.

What are you reading this week? Please tell me the title of the book and the author’s name. I would also like to know which of the seven conflicts you have noticed in the book. Please give me the reason you think that particular conflict applies. I would also like you to make a prediction. How do you think that conflict will be resolved? Looking forward to reading your blog. Have a super special day!

Happy New Year!

Welcome back to school! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas break filled with lots of laughter! It was a busy time at my house with lots of family in town. I am glad to get back to school and be with my students. I have started a brand new book called The Eleventh Plague by Jeff Hirsch. It’s about a 15 year old boy who is among the few who survived a war and a strain of the flu. His grandfather has died. His mother has died. And now, Dad is in a coma. Stephen must learn how to survive. I’ve only read the first 50 pages, but I am already intrigued and can’t wait to keep reading.

What are you reading this week? Please tell me the title of the book and the author’s name. You may be like me and have only just begun reading your book. In the first pages, however, you should have already been introduced to the main character, the setting and given a hint about the conflict. So, please tell me those 3 things. Who is the protagonist? Describe the setting. What do you think the conflict is going to be? I am excited to read your blog. Have a wonderful day!
