Smart Cookies!

The smart cookies in room 406 are starting the Math portion of the MAP test tomorrow. We will be working hard to stay focused and intentional about our actions this week. We have made it through one full week of the MAP and did a great job of sticking to testing expectations. Kids- put on your running shoes, because you will need them this week. :) Good luck on the MAP. You have the power to be great this week and every week. You make the choice.

Love,

Miss Blankenship

Help a hungry child

Parents/Students,

Today I talked with the kids about a great program at www.freerice.com. The website donates rice for each question answered correctly. The students will be using this Website tomorrow during our library research time to work on multiplication facts. I have linked all three games the students should be able to do, on the class Website. The topics are: multiplication, grammar, and vocabulary. The grammar and vocabulary may have some questions the students aren’t familiar with. I have encouraged the students to ask their parents to help them create a login for the site. The students are not however, required to have a personal login. This would be a great resource during the summer months.

406 was on a field trip

We had a great time on our field trip on Wednesday. We traveled to the College of the Ozarks’ Ralph Foster Museum. In the museum we visited the children’s Discovery center as well as the large portion of the museum. The students enjoyed learning about the history contained throughout that building. We finished reading “Little House in the Big Woods” just before spring break. The students found an old log cabin, which they thought was pretty cool. “Miss Blankenship, we found ‘Little House in the Big Woods.’ Come see it!” many of them informed as they walked me to the location. I loved seeing their excitement as we moved from each floor in the museum.

After spending the morning in the museum, we traveled to Stock Still park in Branson for lunch and some playtime at the park. As I had lunch, I sat listening to the different conversations hosted by the students. It was a nice way to spend lunch with them.

Upon leaving the park, we traveled back to College of the Ozarks to tour the dairy farm. We learned about the process of milking and saw both milk cows and baby calves. The smallest one was just two days old. There we also enjoyed taking a few ‘silly’ poses to remember our trip by. Our adventure concluded at the Branson library where students were given a tour of the library. I sent home library card forms. Each child can get a library card with no charge. I encourage you to get a library card so your child can check out books throughout the summer, when our school library is closed. Through research we know that students lose a remarkable amount of schooling through the summer. By keeping up with reading through the summer, your child will not lose as much over the break. :)

Don’t forget, the money and permission slips for Silver Dollar City are due this week. Due to the nature of the field trip, I must have all permission forms and knowledge of parents who are attending by the end of the day on April 4th. Parents will not be able to attend unless they let me know by April 4th. Thanks so much for your help.

How will you ROCK the MAP?

Students,

Your assignment this week is to post at least one strategy you plan to use to ROCK the MAP test. It is a requirement to write your idea in a complete sentence.

Half-way done with 3rd Quarter

Hello students!

We have made it through the 1st half of 3rd quarter. I can hardly believe we haven’t had a snow day. I know each of you are getting anxious for a day off. Keep persevering!

Our character word for the month of February is Honesty. Honesty is being truthful in what you say.

Assignment: Give examples of showing honesty. (I will use your ideas to create our anchor chart.)

One more week to go!

Hello parents/students,

We are just one week away from Christmas break. We will take our math common assessment and finish our writing pieces for the common assessment and final copies for grades. After working so hard over the last two weeks, we will celebrate Christmas together on Friday, December 16th at 1:30. Mrs. Wilkerson is helping get everything ready for that and you might get a call from her concerning our party. Our gift exchange items are due  on Wednesday, so I can ensure we have enough items for everyone. If your child would like to make homemade Christmas cards for our classmates they are more than welcome to do so. I know of one student who already started and inspired the idea for the entire class. We have 23 students in our class and will not have time in class to take care of these cards.

Please let me know if you need anything this week. I will continue working hard and loving your kids this week. :) Have a great week!

Just two more weeks…

Hey everyone!

We made it through Thanksgiving and are almost finished with the first half of the school year. Although the year is almost over, we have many things to keep us busy. On Monday, we will begin our two weeks full of assessments in reading, math, and writing. We are taking the Reading Common Assessment Tuesday – Thursday of this week. The Math Common Assessment will be the following week on Tuesday and Wednesday.

How you can help your child over the next two weeks:

  • Encourage your child to persevere through the next two weeks.
  • Make sure your child has plenty of sleep.
  • Make sure your child has breakfast, either at school or home

I know this is a stressful two weeks, please talk to your child about maintaining control and using kind words with those in our class and throughout the school.

Thank you for your continued support!
